Love, Laugh in the Sun, Sand, Sea on Gambia Holidays
Admittedly, Gambia has one of the smallest Atlantic coastlines for all mainland African nations. This geographical fact does not deter the small country, however, in offering its local and foreign tourists the golden opportunities to enjoy love and laughter in the sun sand and sea during their Gambia holidays.
Beaches in the Gambia
As small as the Atlantic coastline is, Gambia maintains the peaceful and pristine conditions of its beaches. Even with the beach resorts sprouting like mushrooms, there is a sense of oneness with nature coupled with a sense of adventure in every stretch of sand in Gambia.
Take the Leybato, for instance. In the local dialect, it means “by the seashore” and it definitely lives up to its name and more! It is a favorite place to spread love and laughter for expatriates and Peace Corps volunteers amongst themselves and the locals. Don’t get any ideas in your head about the kind of Gambia holidays tourists enjoy here though as it is the kind of love and laughter that is definitely family-friendly.
Just order food and drinks from the restaurant, find a hammock strung between two trees or just about any quiet place you like, and catch up on rest and relaxation! You will even forget the world’s troubles for a while. Or revel in the unspolit beauty of Sanyang Beach. Along the way to the beach, enjoy the countryside scenery that only ancient Africa has to offer. If you are a nature lover, then the Sanyang Nature Park is the place to be. Your beach-bound Gambia holidays will get a pleasurable twist since it hosts many bird species and small animals like vervet monkeys.
There are other beaches in Gambia, of course, like the Cape Point, Tanji and Kombo. Just try to find a quiet area to sunbathe, swim, and soak up the atmosphere as, like so many other tourist areas anywhere in the world, there are bad elements. And don’t forget to go on an excursion tour of the River Gambia, which is the centerprice of ecotourism in the country. With its rich flora and fauna, River Gambia boasts of mangroves and creeks as well as quaintly traditional African fishing villages.
Watersports in the Gambia
Gambia holidays have their fair share of watersports to appeal to the daredevil in every tourist. After all, the sun, sand and seas, no matter how small these are in the country, can still support Western-style sports! There are, of course, the various venues for fishing from the Atlantic Ocean (angle-fishing) to the creeks (creek-fishing) to the beaches (line-fishing). Gambia’s bodies of water are so rich in marine life that the fishes to be caught range from butterfishes to sharks!
But fishing is not all there is to Gambia. You can also engage in jet-skiing, waterskiing and parascending to feed your love for thrills and to get a few laughs, also. Or if you want to just be cool during your Gambia holidays, you can always go back to just lazing around in the sun, soaking up the good vibes and spreading some love. In a good way, of course!
